Moonstone Ritual

Moonstone Ritual
by Denise Dumars

Consecrating a magickal The moonstone is a semi-precious stone that can aid in any magick you wish to do involving the Moon, water, or the astrological signs Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. A cabochon-shaped piece of moonstone should be easy to find in rock shops or in New Age stores, and the stone is relatively inexpensive. Once you find it, bathe the stone in salt water. Go outside to face the night sky. Hold it and visualize it becoming the Moon while you say:
"Moon in my hand Lovely to see, You are mine to hold, Mine to find When no Moon I see. When I wish the Moon's power Indoors with me, Moon in my hand You will abide with me."
Take the stone inside and place it on your altar. Burn a silver candle and place the stone before an image of a Moon god or goddess, such as Thoth or Diana. Meditate on the stone, imbuing it with the powers of the Moon and the sea. Scry with it. Write down what you observe. Repeat the washing of the stone and presentation of it to the Moon each night until the Full Moon for maximum moonstone power.

Summer Love Spell

Summer Love Spell
by Lily Gardner-Butts

On the seventh day of the seventh month, Vega joins Altair over the Milky Way. The king of the sky had one daughter who worked long hours as the court weaver. Her name was Vega, and she thought of nothing but the clothes she designed and wove—that is until she met Altair. The two fell in love and spent so much time together that in time the king's robes grew threadbare. The couple ignored the king's warnings about their irresponsibility. Enraged, the king separated them on either side of the Milky Way. As a result, the lovers became ill with grief.

Eventually, the king relented and allowed the lovers this one day in the year to be together. To find your true love today, you must decorate your altar with spools of colored thread and flowers. Light two candles, one pink, one red, and pray to the heavenly couple that you find your soul mate.

Seashell Amulet Spell

Seashell Amulet Spell
by James Kambos

Seashells connect us with the element water, our home before we were born. Therefore, seashells serve as a direct link to the life-force.

They can be an awesome object of power and protection. Like most natural magical objects, we come upon them by chance. This summer if you are at the shore, take a walk along the beach and see if you're attracted to a particular seashell. If so, bring it home and magically charge it by holding the shell and speak these words softly:
"The divine has brought you to me Safe and sound from the sea. You have been
bathed by the water And drenched by the light Of Moon and Sun. Now, our magick has begun."
Protect your shell and use it as a focal point for certain spells, especially those related to travel.

Personal Power Spell

Personal Power Spell
by Karen Follett

Personal power means many things to many people. The common denominator in personal power is confidence—confidence with who you are and what you can accomplish, and that allows you to take the path of your choosing while honoring others in the paths they choose. Power is a divine spark that burns in each of us. This power chant can be used to ignite a power spark for any desired goal. Visualize yourself as a powerful person obtaining a specific goal. Begin the chant by saying:
"Power divine, your spark is mine."
Feel the energy's warm flow. Allow the warmth to build through your chakras. As you feel the warmth intensify, change the chant to:
"Power divine, your flame is mine."
Release the energy as it crests. Draw your power back through your chakras from crown to root, and ground any excess energy.

RELIEF OF MIGRAINES

Drink Lavender tea.
Queen Elizabeth the First drank 10 cups a day to ease her brain strain(a small
handful in a pot of nearly boiling water)

Cool compresses over the eyes with a few drops of lavender oil added to the compress will help ease the pain.

Try this Aboriginal cure.

Have a trusted loved one who is healthy and never gets headaches to sit cross legged beside you. Place one end of a long piece of red string in your mouth and across in the mouth of the other person. Have the other person draw the string through their mouth away from you so that they 'draw' the headache out. When the string has completely moved from your mouth through theirs, they need to spit and bury the string.

Sometimes chronic migraines can have to do with you having control issues in your life - trying to control others and over control yourself to the point of stifling your natural energy. Try wearing a sapphire ring on the index finger of the right hand to help channel this energy into more constructive avenues

Bedtime Chant for Psychic Dreams

Before bedtime each night, say the following prayer for psychic dreams.

Nighttime forces, darkness deep

Mother Moonlight, touch my sleep

Speak to me in sacred dreams

Send thy wisdom on thy beams

Tell me all that I must know

While safe my loved ones sleep and grow

By night I wear Inanna's guise

As one we soar, as one we fly!

Ides of May Spell

Ides of May Spell
by Painteowl

During an illness, we may have to take medicines that take time to work.

To enhance the properties of the medication, follow the directions printed on the label, but also do this simple meditation both before and after you take your prescription.

First, take a deep cleansing breath for a slow count of four. Then, hold your breath for another slow count of four. Now breathe out, for a slow count of four, and hold for another slow count of four. Repeat this breathing exercise three times, while envisioning your body getting ready to receive the help it needs.

Pause for a few moments and a few stray breaths, then take the medication very deliberately and with conscious thought.

Next, perform the breathing technique described above three more times—each time envisioning your body accepting the medication and readily sending it along the pathways of your blood stream, delivering its message of relief and improved health.

Cauldron Banishing for Samhain

Into your cauldron, place a large black votive candle.

On small pieces of paper write what you wish banished from your life, one banishment per paper; fold each paper once away from you.

When you are ready, light the candle inside the cauldron. Now light one piece of paper in the flame of the candle and drop into the cauldron.

Keep going until all papers are gone. There will be alot of flame, so please use caution and make sure no flammables are nearby (i.e. curtains etc.). In fact, it would be wise to keep a box of baking soda or salt near your work area (just in case).

Let the cauldron burn itself out; then clean when cool.

Making Herbal Remedies

Growing, gathering, drying and storing herbs can be very fulfilling. Yet all is in vain, if you do not successfully use your herbs for their medicinal, culinary, cosmetic, and household possibilities. Don't be afraid, making herbal remedies is easy, fun, and economical. There are many ways to use the herbs that you have successfully grown in your container, or garden. Dried, or powdered herbs can be used to make pills or lozenges, while fresh, or dried, herbs can be used to make teas and infusions. You can soak your fresh or dried herbs in alcohol, oils, or vinegar, to make long lasting tinctures, and culinary additives. You can even heat your herbs in oil to release their beneficial healing powers, and make herbal salves, balms, and creams.

Herbal Teas

Making herbal teas may be the easiest of all herbal remedies. Also known as a tisane, or infusion, Herbal teas can be made by simply adding fresh or dried herbs to a pot, or cup of boiling water. To begin, place 1 teaspoon of dried herbs, or 2-3 teaspoons of fresh herbs, per 1 cup of water into a teapot or teacup. Add boiling water, cover, and steep for 10 minutes. You must then strain your tea by pouring it through a strainer of some sort. There are multiple ways of doing this, and your own experimentation will prove most valuable.

Herbal Decoctions

Similar to an infusion, or tea, a decoction is necessary when you are making remedies from tough plant materials, such as roots, bark, seeds or stems. To begin, place thinly chopped plant material into a saucepan and add cold water. Use 1-2 teaspoons of fresh or dried herbs to one cup of water. Bring the decoction to a boil, simmer for 15 minutes, and strain after the liquid has been reduced by one half.

Herbal Syrup

Herbal syrups are a good way to soothe sore throats and common respiratory ailments. Herbal syrups can be made by combining sugar, honey, or glycerin with tinctures, teas, infusions, and medicinal liquors. Syrups can be preserved by adding glycerin or refrigerating.
  • 1. To begin, make a tea, decoction, or tincture, or infusion.
  • 2. Combine selected herbal solution, and combine with honey in a saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil. A typical syrup would have a ratio of approximately 1 cup of solution, to º cup of honey or other sweetener.
  • 3. Pour mixture into clean, dark bottles, let cool and cap with a cork stopper, or similar, non sealing lid. This will keep syrup from exploding if syrup begins to ferment. Keep refrigerated.

Herbal Tincture

Herbal tinctures allow one to make a large herbal remedy and store for a longer period of time, making them available at a short notice to be used with teas, salves, creams, etc. to make an instant herbal remedy. Tinctures are made by steeping fresh or dried herbs in alcohol or vinegar. The liquid extracts the volatile oils and active constituents from the herbs, and preserves them for up to 2 years. Vodka is the best alcohol to use due to its tastelessness.

  • 1. To begin, place cut up pieces of dried or fresh herbs in a large glass jar.
  • 2. Cover herbs with enough alcohol or vinegar to fully immerse the herbs. Let steep at room temperature in a dark spot, shaking the jar daily.
  • 3. After 2-4 weeks, strain the mixture through a fine cloth, paper coffee filter, or cheesecloth.
  • 4. Pour the tincture into clean, dark bottles and store out of the sun until needed.

Infused Oils

Herbal oils are made by extracting the herbal constituents and volatile oils from the herbs for a later use. Any vegetable oil will do, yet olive, almond, canola, and sesame oils are the best. Herbal oils can be added to recipes, used for cooking, or massaged into sore body parts. Herbal oils can be infused by two methods; cold infusion and hot infusion.

Cold Infused Oil

  • 1. To begin, tightly fill a large sealable jar with selected herb flowers or leaves.
  • 2. Cover herbs with selected oil and screw on lid.
  • 3. Place jar on a sunny windowsill for approximately one month, shaking daily.
  • 4. Strain the mixture into a container, and transfer into a dark bottle.
  • 5. Place in a cool, dark place.

Hot Infused Oil

  • 1. To begin, place a ratio of 2 cups oil to 1 cup of dried herbs/2 cups fresh herbs, in a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water.
  • 2. Slowly heat on low for approximately 3 hours, and strain into a bowl.
  • 3. Transfer liquid into dark bottles, cap, and place in a cool, dark place.

Salves & Ointments

Salves and oils are made by combining heated oil with a particular herb until the oil absorbs the plants healing properties. Adding beeswax will thicken the mixture to the desired consistency.

  • 1. To begin, pour 3-4 fl. Oz. Of desired infused oil into a glass bowl.
  • 2. Place solution over a pot of boiling water.
  • 3. Add a 1"square piece of beeswax to the solution, stirring constantly until the wax has completely melted.
  • 4. Pour warm liquid into small dark ointment jars and store in a cool, dark place.

Creams

Creams are an emulsion of oil and a water soluble liquid, allowing the final product to be readily absorbed by the skin. The easiest way to make creams is to buy an emulsifying cream from the drugstore, and heat the desired herb plant material in it.

  • 1. To begin, melt approximately 2 tablespoons of emulsifying cream in a bowl placed over a pot of boiling water.
  • 2. Add one large tablespoon of dried herbs to the mixture, and stir slowly until the cream takes on the color of the herbs.
  • 3. Remove from heat, strain, and squeeze the remaining liquid from the clump.
  • 4. Let cream cool in a glass bowl, and spoon into small, dark bottles.
  • 5. Store jars in a cool, dark place for up to one year

MEDICINE BAGS

Personal medicine bags are powerful, sacred objects that have long been part of American Indians private accoutrements. A person can wear one openly around his neck or suspended from his waist. Some people conceal them.

An individual can make her own medicine bag, or relatives or friends may make it for her. Many American Indians create a medicine bag to help them accomplish a formidable task, or something they feel is a long shot, others keep special medicine bags in their house, car, or truck.

MEDICINE BAGS

Medicine bags are important throughout life, but especially during illness or other major changes. Because these are times of accentuated self-awareness, sensitivity, and sometimes quandary, making someone a medicine bag is a way to honor his identity and provide reassurance.

People may create entirely new medicine bags or add to existing ones. These cherished possessions are created from soft-tanned animal skins or from red cloth, calico, or muslin. Some are plain but they may also be ornately beaded, quilled, or painted with clan or dream symbolism, medicine plants, or totems. While he cuts and stitched it together, the bags maker prays for the health and happiness of the recipient. He carefully chooses the items that will go into it and directs a particular prayer or good thought into each one.

Some medicine bags are blessed and begun with a pinch of tobacco or pollen, sweetgrass, sage or red cedar. Less is better, it is not the amount but the energy that counts. You might choose to add special seeds, a small stone or crystal specific to a sacred place, or a pinch of earth from your home wrapped or tied in a tiny piece of red flannel.

Medicine bags are works in progress. You can add to or subtract from the unique personal items they contain throughout your life, depending upon events. Invested with prayers and healing energies, they often retain their power for a lifetime or beyond.

A Spell for Serenity

from The Witches Magical Handbook
by Gavin Frost, PH.D, D.D. & Yvonne Frost, D.D.,
The Founders of The Church and School of Wicca, est. 1968

Select a small room or area in your home. This may be just one piece of a wall. Remove from the area all distractions such as books and electronics. Paint the area in a pale ivory colour. Put into the area a small wooden table or altar and a comfortable chair. On the altar put a picture or a statue of some god/goddess image that you like, with a single small potted plant and a white candle in a non-metal holder.

Every evening when you come in from work, remove all of your clothing and jewelry. If possible, bathe. Go to the area. Light the candle and sit for 10 minutes doing nothing. Contemplate the plant. Allow no interruptions.

Anubis Travel Spell

Anubis Travel Spell
S.Y. Zenith

Anubis the Egyptian jackal or hunting dog is a protector, guardian, and opener of ways. Its nature is movable and when invoked for guidance prior to a journey away from home, Anubis navigates the traveler through unforeseen obstacles during the trip.

Obtain a picture of Anubis and tuck it into your luggage. This will ensure that it will arrive at the same destination upon your disembarking, instead of turning up in the town of Usa in Japan. Being the patron of navigators, Anubis is the St. Christopher of the Western world and guards and protects your welfare and belongings.

After you return home from a successful and happy trip, place the picture of Anubis on the altar and give thanks.

Watch the candle burn until white wax appears at the flame. Rub a bit of
lemon oil into the flame and say:

Kunzite/agate, stone of mellow hue, Dissolve this depression, I
beg of you. Take its power and transform its strength Into positive
energy I can use at length.

Lightly rub the stone against your temples and your heart, then place it in front of the candle and sprinkle it with lemon balm. Let the candle burn completely. Place the stone and herb in the cloth pouch and carry it with you. When your spirits need a lift, re-anoint the stone and repeat its empowerment chant.

Calendula & Lavendar Balm

Makes 4 ounces

Ingredients:
  • 1 oz. melted Beeswax
  • 1 1/2 oz. Calendula Infused Oil
  • 1 1/2 oz. Lavender Infused Oil
  • 25 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 55 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

Notes: This is a simple balm that my family uses for any minor burns, scrapes, scratches, cuts, abrasions, and other such boo boo's. This is also a nice balm for dry or irritated skin.

Directions: To make the balm, start melting your Beeswax on the stove top. In another pan, add water and let the water simmer. Set the jar you intend to make the balm in down in the water. It should come up about half way on the jar, but not so much the jar is floating. Pour your Infused oils into the jar and add 1oz. of melted Beeswax. Stir this well until all the ingredients are mixed. Take the jar out of the hot water and add your essential oils, again stirring well. Put the top on and allow to cool.

Precautions: Familiarize yourself with the safe use of essential oils before trying any recipe or essential oils. Check with a reputable aromatherapy book and your doctor regarding the safety of each ingredient before using any recipe or synergy.

Witch Balls

by Amber K

Folklore gives us many ways to protect and bless our homes, from a sprig of rowan fastened near the entryway to the brightly colored hex signs of the Pennsylvania Dutch, to the inverted horseshoe nailed above the door to "catch the luck" and hold it. The "Witch Ball" is one more protective device.

A Witch Ball is a hollow glass sphere hung at a window, or in a corner of a room near the ceiling, that averts or traps evil before it can bring harm to the occupants of the home. It may be only a couple of inches in diameter, or large as a pumpkin.

Some writers have said they were called "Witch Balls" because they were made to protect a home from Witches. It is just as possible, however, that the balls were used by Witches to ward their own homes, and those of their clients.

No one knows exactly when these talismans first were used. The manufacture of glass and the ability to make blown-glass vessels are very old skills; the Roman Empire had a lively trade in glass two thousand years ago. We know that Witch Balls were used in Old England, but whether this was a legacy of the Roman occupation or a later custom is uncertain. Certainly Witch Balls were common in colonial America.

Many witch balls were coated inside with silver nitrate. It was said that these reflected the "evil eye" or any negative spell back on the sender. Also, any demon seeing his face reflected in the silver ball would be frightened and flee, or maybe seeing the world reflected in a curved, distorted way was enough to confuse him. Other balls are created with slender threads or pillars of glass inside to catch any evil spirit that ventured within. Yet others were simply the glass balls, clear or green or blue, used by fishermen to float their nets. Perhaps these were reflective enought to work the same way as the silver balls.

Witch balls have also found their way into the garden as a form of the large "gazing globes" on pedestals that adorned many Victorian gardens and are still seen occasionally today. If a flower garden is a place of beauty and serenity, a refuge from the cares of the world, certainly it deserves protection as much as the house itself.

Another place where Witch balls turn up is on the family Christmas tree - or more accurately the Yule tree, as the custom of dragging a tree indoors is doubtlessly Pagan in origin. The tree may be a variant on the Yule log, which was orignally a huge dead tree (and phallic symbol), conveyed to the manor house by the men of the village with much singing and ribald horseplay. There one end was placed in the great hearth, and a fire kindled. Over several days of feasting and festivity the Yule log was gradually pushed into the fire as the end was consumed.

The Yule tree may also have been a representation of the World Tree of old Northern Europe. The whole universe was imagined as a great ash tree, called Yggdrasil. Its roots reached down into the Norse underworlds, Niflheim and Muspelheim; its crown stretched up to Asgard and the halls of the gods; and in its branches deer and other wild creatures browsed. This great tree is akin to the Tree of Life of the ancient goddess civilizations of the Near East.

On our Yule trees today we place lights and stars and candy canes, carved animals and elves and Santas and - of course - little glass spheres. Witch Balls. Gold for the reborn Sun god, and silver for the Moon Goddess, whose blessings and protection we ask for the coming new year. In Ancient Ways, Pauline Campanelli suggests that the "shiny glass balls catch the light of the new born Sun and send it back as a magical means of enhancing the Sun's energy.

"You can have your own Witch ball up year 'round. Buy a large and beautiful Yule ornament, or seek out a glass fishermans's float in an antique shop, or look in a catalog of garden statuary such as Toscano's for a "gazing globe." Give it a special place of honor in your home or garden, invoke the gods of your choice, and consecrate it to its protective purpose. Dust it frequently to remove any negsativity from its surface. Perhaps it will make your home that much more of a safe have.

How To Make A Protection Witch Ball
  • glass ball or Yule ornament with an opening
  • bottle of silver paint
  • a spool of read thread
  • few drops of frankincense or patchouli oil
  • scissors

Cover you working space with newspaper to protect against spills. Take the metal cap off the ornament. Carefully pour a little of the silver paint inside the ball and swish it around until the inside is completely covered with the silver. Set it aside to dry.

When the paint is totally dry, cut the red thread into three inch-lengths. Carefully poke this thread into the open end of the ball. Continue cutting and putting the thread into the ball untill the ball is nearly full. Put in a few drops of oil. Then put the end back on the ornament. If it has no end, seal it with candle wax. When you hang the protection ball, chant:

"Symbol of the Moon, symbol of the Lady divine, Reject all negativity, defend
this home (car), me and mine".

This protection ball can be hung in the window of your home or in your car. Any negative thoughts or ill-wishes directed against you are reflected back to the sender. You can also decorate the outside with appropriate designs. You can put them onto wreaths or make them part of a dried flower arrangement. Programmed for protection, these little Witch balls do a very good job.

THE FULL MOON RITE

Perform this at night, in the view of the Moon if possible. It is appropriate for crescents, white flowers, silver and other lunar symbols to be present on the altar for this ritual. The quartz crystal sphere can be placed on the altar as well. Or, if you prefer, use the cauldron (or a small white or silver bowl) filled with water. Place a piece of silver into the water.

Arrange the altar, light the candles and censer, and cast the Circle of Stones.

Stand before the altar and invoke the Goddess and God, with the Blessing Chant and/or any other invocations.

Now gaze at the Moon, if possible. Feel its energies sinking into your body. Feel its cool Goddess energy wash you with power and love. Now say these or similar words:
Wondrous Lady of the Moon
You who greets the dusk with silvered kisses;
Mistress of the night and of all magicks,
who rides the clouds in blackened skies
and spills light upon the cold Earth;
O Lunar Goddess,
Crescented-One,
Shadow maker and shadow breaker;
Revealer of mysteries past and present;
Puller of seas and ruler of women;
All-wise Lunar Mother,
I greet your celestial jewel
at the waxing of its powers
With a rite in Your honor.
I pray by the Moon,
I pray by the Moon,
I pray by the Moon.
Continue chanting
"I pray by the Moon"
for as long as you will. Visualize the Goddess if you so desire, perhaps as a tall, robust woman wearing silver jewelry and white, rippling, draped clothing. A crescent Moon may rest upon Her brow, or She may toss a glowing silvery white orb in Her hands. She treads the starfield of eternal night in an eternal round with Her lover, the Sun God, spreading moonrays wherever She goes. Her eyes laugh, Her skin is white and translucent. She glows.

Now is the time for magick of all types, for the full of the Moon marks the height ofi ts powers, and all positive spells cast then are powerful.

Full Moons are also excellent times for meditation, mirror magick and psychic workings, for such are often more successful within the circle. Crystal-scrying is particularly recommended; flood the crystal with moonlight prior to the ritual. If you have no crystal sphere, use the cauldron filled with water and the piece of silver. Gaze at the water (or at the Moon glinting on the silver) to awaken your psychic awareness.

Lunar liquids such as lemonade, milk or white wine can be consumed during the simple feast that follows. Crescent cakes are traditional as well. Thank the Goddess and God and release the circle.

It is done.

Spell to Bless Your Oven

The oven is an ancient emblem of transformation. Raw bread dough is one thing, but baked bread is clearly another; what comes out of the oven is quite different from what went in. We can honor the oven and its almost alchemical magic it's ability to change things in order to nourish us more deeply with this simple spell.

You will need:
  • A cookie sheet
  • Flour

On the cookie sheet, which represents the Earth, sprinkle a tiny amount of flour. Flour combines all four elements it was rooted in earth, nourished by rain, warmed by sun, and harvested from air. Give some thought to this as you use your index finger to draw a simple sun-shape on the flour. The oven is like the sun, a small personal source of fire and heat. Breathe your own energy over the cookie sheet and then say the following:

"A blessing on food and fed, Earth and sun. All are one. A blessing on your
power Bless fire and food and maker Bless seed and plant and baker. Nourish us deeply, Change us completely, Teach us to nourish each other."

Full Moon Water

This is easy! Every Full Moon take a jar or bottle of water outside and set it where the light of the Full Moon will shine on it. Leave it there as long as theMoon is out. Ask the Goddess to bless the water with Her light and love.

Now take the jar and close it tightly. Keep it to use in all rituals and spells that require water. When the next Full Moon comes, pour the remaining water in the grass or a garden (don't pour it down the drain!), and repeat the process.

Moon Brew

Set a silver container filled with water out on the night of a full moon just as it rises. (sunset) Leave it out to soak in the lunar rays all night.

Just before dawn rise, and retrieve the water. Place into an earthen jug and cork tightly. Never expose to the rays of the sun ! Touch to the brow to promote psychic awareness, place in the bath to attune with spiritual planes prior to lunar rituals.

Ultimate Magic Garden

The Ultimate Magic Garden

Spring is the season to start planting seeds for the future. For me, the ultimate Magic Garden would be planted using the Feng Shui bagua as a guideline for the boundaries of the plot and incorporate flowers herbs and plants that correspond to each signifigant direction.

The first thing I would suggest, is to mark off your garden(or balcony full of pots) as a square (or as close to a square as you can get it) and determine the directions -- north, south, east and west. Then use the rough guideline below, taking into account your climate and seasons to know what to plant where to bring you health, wealth, peace, guidance, happiness and protection. You don¹t have to incorporate all the suggestions below of course -- just a couple of touches here in there might do wonders.

The SOUTHERN corner of your garden governs recognition and fame. The flowers you plant there should be predominantly red in colour. Red and pinks should be main theme, although there well be flowers in there included for properties besides colour. Flowers that bring you fame: poppies, roses, bluebells, violets. Foilage: Holly, hazel, heather and all ferns. Herbs: Star anise, veviter. Produce: strawberries, leeks, chili peppers. This corner also represents the Fire element so it is a good area to string up lights, put the barbeque or have a little hearth for fire.

The SOUTHWESTERN corner governs marriage prospects and marital happiness. The predominant flower colour should be yellow. Flowers for emotional security: daffodils, lillies, tulips, asters, bleeding hearts, daisies, roses, gardenia, lavender, orchid, poppy, primrose, periwinkle, hyacinth, trilliums, violet, geranium. Herbs: basil, marjoram, dill, mint, rosemary, thyme. Produce: Ginger, endive, raspberries, tomatoes. This area represents Big Earth so it is a good place to put a stone statue or a large rock or boulder.

The WESTERN corner governs children and fertility. The predominant flowers should be yellow and white. Flowers: Lavender, Cyclamen, Lily of the Valley, Morning Glory Foilage; Hawthorne Herbs: Mustard, catnip. Produce: Beans, carrots, cucumbers, grape, mustard. This area is known as Small Metal and would benefit from some windchimes or small silvery objects that catch the sun.

The NORTHWESTERN corner governs helpful people or mentors. The predominamt flower colour should be white yellow and orange. Flowers: Passion flower, sweetpea, Sunflower, Iris, carnation Foilage: Rowan, Myrtle, dogwod, clover Herbs: Pennyroyal, lemon balm, sage Produce: peppers, fennel, pumpkins, squash. This corner is called "Big Metal" so it is a good place to put table and chairs to invite the help into your life.

The NORTH corner governs career prospects. The flowers here should bepredominately dark purple or blue. Flowers that boost career: Camellia, honeysuckle, jasmine, periwinkle, poppy, trillium, snapdragons, dandelion. Foilage: bromeliads, myrtle, Irish moss (all mosses), ferns Herbs: dill, goldenseal, mint Produce: cashews rice, grapes, onions, oats, peas, wheat. This direction representswater, so it is the ideal place to put a fountain or pool. Add fish to it and double your luck.

The NORTHEAST corner governs education and wisdom. The flowers here should be predominatly yellow and orange. Flowers: jasmine, marigold, roses, iris , sunflower. Foilage: bracken, all grasses, flax Herbs: borage, eyebright, peppermint, saffron, thyme, rosemary, caraway, rue, savory, mint Produce: celery, onons, grapes. This area is "Small Earth" so it is good for a rock garden, a small alter or a birdbath.

The EAST governs family relationships and health. The foilage here should mainly be green and filled with bush or trees. Flowers are: loosestrife, meadowsweet, morning glory, violet, daisies, hostas Foilage: Witchgrass, purslane, tobacco, hemp, hops Herbs: Lavender, scullcap, vervain, linden, sage Produce: avocado, rhubarb, rye. This area is called Big Wood which is why it is good to have at least one big tree there or a tree house.

The SOUTHEAST governs wealth and prosperity and should be as green and lush as possible. Flowers that bring wealth: Camelia, golden rod, helorope, honeysuckle, trillum Trees: all fruit trees, pecan, walnut, oak, pine Foilage: all bromelaids, mosses and ferns Herbs basil, clover, dill, mint, vervaine Produce: lettuce, corn, peas, oats, onions. This area is known as Small Wood and would be augmented by windmills, a swing or another structure made of wood (preferably one that moves to circulate energy.)

Creating a Moon Altar and Goddess Box

Creating a Moon Altar and Goddess Box

In a household space that will not be disturbed, place pictures of family members, pets, and friends. Place three white or clear stones or marbles in the bottom of a clear glass vase. Collect white flowers from your yard or garden, or purchase some at a floral shop. Place the flowers in the vase with water, and add a little sugar and salt. Add a small wooden box, preferably made from white oak or pine. Write down anything that is bothering you and place the paper in the box.

Ask the Goddess to take care of the situation for you, and stop worrying about it. Be sure to remove any wilted flowers immediately, and replace them with fresh flowers. As your problems are resolved, remove them from the box. Thank the Goddess for her help. Bury or burn the paper outside.

Flower Crowns

Materials Needed:
  • Fresh flowers of any kind with short (2-3") stems
  • A metal nail file or large needle

The process of making flower crowns is a very simple, relaxing one. It may be a bit time consuming, but worth the effort, I like to do this while chanting or singing.

Pick up a flower and with the nail file, poke a hole in the part of the flower just under the blossom. Slip the stem of another flower into the hole, cutting the stem if you need to. Now poke a hole in that flower, and slip another flower 's stem into that hole. Continue until you have a chain long enough to sit on your head. To complete the circle, poke a hole in the last flower, and slip the stem of the first flower into that hole.

From here, you can add more flowers, greenery, or even ribbons. Now you have a pretty circlet of flowers to wear for Spring & Summer rites.

Eye pillows

Start by cutting two pieces of material approximately 10" x 5". Sew inside out on all sides leaving a small hole to turn the pillow back out and to fill. After turning it right-side out fill with mixture and sew up the hole.

Some variations:

Cut material and sew up three sides. Make a separate inner pillow of muslin to slip inside after filling with herbal mixture. Lace up outerpillow with ribbons. Make several herbal mixtures to put inside the outer pillow to change with your mood.

Migraine Eye Pillow

  • 1 cup Flax seed
  • 1/2 cup dried Lavender
  • 1/2 cup dried Peppermint

Relaxation Eye Pillow

  • 1 cup flax seed
  • 1/2 cup dried Lavender blossoms
  • Rosewood essential oil
  • Geranium essential oil
  • Chamomile essential oil

When using oils make sure that you mix ingredients well before adding to pillow.

When using oils, do not microwave any pillow as the oils will dissipate.

To renew oils, squeeze the pillow gently or you can mist the pillow lightly with water.

Sinus Pillow

  • 1 cup flax
  • 1/2 cup dried Lavender blossoms
  • 1/4 cup dried Peppermint
  • 1/4 cup dried Spearmint
  • 1/4 cup dried Eucalyptus

Place the pillow in a plastic bag and freeze for about 20 minutes before using for relief after you have taken it out of the baggie.

taken from the archives of The Witch's Garden @~>~~

Sweet Dreams Pillow

For fabric choose one that makes you feel comfortable, either cotton, silk, satin or velvet.

Dried herbs that will be enclosed in the pillow are equal parts of these,
Hops, Rose petals, Lavender blossoms, Chamomile, Mugwort, Lemon balm.
Use equal parts of the herbs but with a bit less of the Mugwort.

Items you will need:

  • funnel
  • needle and thread
  • fabric
  • herbs

Start by cutting two circles six inches in diameter. Place the material inside out and sew around the perimeter, leaving a small hole large enough for your funnel spout. Mix the herbs together in a small bowl or plastic baggie, then using the funnel, scoop the herbs into the pillow until it is almost full. Do not overfill as you may have a great lump lodged in your ear the next morning otherwise. Sew up the small hole and put in your pillowcase or if you are so inclined, place the pillow between you and your lover to share the dreams.

Freedom from Fear Spell

Freedom from Fear Spell
by Edain McCoy

The twenty-first century is turning out to be much more than a just a number. While our European allies have been dealing with terrorism for decades, we Americans thought the anger and hatred of reactionaries and fundamentalists would never touch our lives. English folklore includes two war legends, probably based on true events, that we can draw on a magical people to help affect a dangerous world for the better. The legends claim that England's Witches and Druids stirred up the massive storm that wrecked the dreaded Spanish Armada in 1588, and then turned back a planned invasion by the Nazis in 1940. We can gather, raise power, and send out magic to let the world know that the United States and our allies will not live in fear. To do this, gather as many other Pagans as you can find. If you're a solitary you can still do this alone. Go outside if you can, and sit on the ground of your own homeland. Raise an impenetrable curtain of safety surrounding the coastlines and borders of your nation. Feel the strength of the cone of power rising around you. When it has reached its peak, release it into the imagery your mind created.

Solitary Moon Rite

Solitary Moon Rite
Ellen Reed, Coven of Sothistar

This rite may be used for either New or Full Moon. The difference is in your meditation and mental attitude in preparation. Remember that the New Moon is a time of outward work and thought, building to the peak which is the Full Moon. At the Full Moon, you should be preparing to lessen the outward flow of energy, bit by bit, until the period before New Moon, during which you are passive, building a pool of energy within you, in preparation for the New Moon.

The altar should be placed in the center of the ritual area. On it should be placed a rose or stick of incense on the eastern side, a red votive candle to the South; a cup of water on the West, and a bowl of salt or living plant on the North.

Around your ritual area, you should place an unlighted candle at the cardinal point of each direction.

To begin your rite, enter your darkened temple, carrying one burning candle, white or lavender, with you. Place it on the center of your altar, sit, and meditate on the meaning of the rite. When you feel the time is right, stand, and go to the eastern point, carrying with you, the burning taper. Light the votive at the eastern point and go to the southern, picturing, as you do, an arc of pure strong light curving from one candle to the next. Continue to the West, and then to the North, lighting the candles as you go, and then walk to your eastern candle again, having formed a circle of protective light surrounding the area in which you worship.

Return to the center of the circle, replace the candle on the altar, and say:

My Lady of the Moon, who is called Diana, Artemis, Levanah, Isis and by any
other names, I come to you to bring you my love and my devotion. May you grant
me the joy of your presence.

Mentally divide the room into four quadrants by visualizing a line of silvery moonlight from the southeast to the northwest, and from the northeast to the southwest. Go the East, taking with you the rose or incense. Say:

Sweet Goddess, the gentle breeze is the touch of your loving hand, the wind of
storm are minder of your strength. The sound of the trees in the wind is your
voice, and the fragrance of flowers borne on the wind is your gift of beauty.
Place the rose next to the votive candle, then stand there as you picture the quadrant filling with moonlight. See the moonlight streaming quietly and gently into the room, filling the quadrant from center point to the edge of your circle.

When this is complete, take the red candle to the South. Place the gift and see the quadrant fill with moonlight. Say:

Most loved Lady, the light of the candle is a guide along our path leading to
you; its warmth the reassurance of your presence and your love. The light of the
Sun is the knowledge you impart to us, driving out ignorance and those things
which can survive only in darkness.
At the West:

Lovely One, the quiet pool is the serenity of your being. The vast sea where
life began on this planet is the vast sea of your being whence all life came;
its waves are the ebb and flow of the universe you rule.

At the North:

Goddess of all, the fertility of the earth is a sign of your fertility, whence
all life rose. The solidity and permanence are still of it are still less than
yours. The Earth's fertility feeds our bodies, and your fertility feeds our
souls.

Go to the center of your temple, which is now filled with moonlight.

Everything in the circle is touched by it, blessed by it, including you. Sit down and feel this moonlight around you. Know that it is the Goddess. Realize that you are in the center of a sphere of light that is half above and half above and half below where you sit. Begin to breathe slowly and evenly, deep breaths that penetrate your whole body. When this rhythmic breathing becomes natural, imagine that the moonlight by which you are surrounded enters you, fills you entirely.

With each exhalation of your breath, some of the essence of yourself leaves your body, and with each inhalation, the light enters you. You are being filled ever so gently with this beautiful light. This light, which is the presence, the being of the Goddess, is within you as well as without. With each breath, you are less yourself and more the Goddess.

When you are filled with light, filled with the Goddess, the shell of your body fades away. You have no body; there is nothing to separate you from the entire being of the Goddess. Nothing exists but the being of which you are apart. You have ceased to be a separate entity. You are nothing and everything. All that was, that is, and all that will be, you are.

Enjoy this feeling as long as you like. When you feel it is time, picture the outer shell of your physical body reforming, becoming solid again. It is being built out oft he Universe of which you are a part.

Now, as you continue your slow deep breathing, see the moonlight flowing out of your body, as gently and slowly as it entered. As it flows out, realize there is a difference. Because you have become one with the Goddess, with the Universe, your being has changed. As the moonlight flows out of your body, it takes with it a part of that which was yourself, now part of the Goddess, and leaves behind a part of the Goddess, forever now part of you. You become yourself again, solid as you were, but changed. You are surrounded by the presence of the Goddess, which now contains a part of yourself .

Move again to the East. As you speak, and after, picture the moonlight in that quadrant flowing back to its source, leaving that quadrant as it was.

Do this at each quadrant, until all the moonlight has returned to the Moon.

At the East:

My Lady, guide my thoughts. Let them lead always closer to you.

At the South:

Gracious Goddess, guide my actions. Let them always help and never harm others
or myself.

At the West:

Lovely One, guide my emotions: Let them be healing and touched always by
you.

At the North:

Sweet Goddess, let my mind always be fertile and strong, that I may grow
always toward you.

Return to the East to complete the circle and say:

Queen of Heaven, I thank you for your presence, both now and always. My love and devotion are yours. Blessed be! All spirits who have joined me tonight may
depart, with my love.

Return to your proper places.

Walk again around your circle, but this time counter clockwise, extinguishing the quadrant guards as you go, and at the same time, mentally erasing the white line which surrounded your circle. When the candles are out and the circle gone, rap on your altar and say:

The rite is ended.

Candle Prosperity Spell

You will need:

green or gold candle
Jasmine oil
ground nutmeg

Inscribe your wishes onto a green or gold candle. Be as specific as possible, and clearly visualize your dreams as you do this.

Anoint the entire candle with jasmine oil, feeling the energy of prosperity seep into the wax with the oil. Sprinkle some nutmeg over the oil.

Light the candle, seeing the flame and its light releasing brilliant green and gold energies. Clearly visualize the wishes and dreams you inscribed on the candle being released to the universe, then, for as long a period as you can, hold the image of your dreams coming to fruition in your mind. When you can no longer hold the image, release it to the flame and allow the candle to burn itself out.

PROSPERITY WATER SPELL

You will need:

10 pennies,
empty jar,
green food coloring,
a green candle,
potting soil

Once you have your 10 pennies, place them in an empty clear jar. Fill the jar with spring water and 3 drops of green food coloring. On the next full moon leave the jar (lid off) under the light of the moon. You may place it on a windowsill where the moon is sure to shine, or in a garden or terrace. If you do not have access to any of these places, go outside with the jar and hold it up to the light of the moon for at least 13 minutes. The longer the jar is exposed, the more powerful the potion, but 13 minutes is the minimum amount of time required to empower the water. You must close the lid on the jar and take it inside before sunrise.

On the following evening, seal the lid of the jar by dripping the wax of a green candle round and round the perimeter of the jar, sealing the space between the neck of the jar and the lid. Bury the jar in some rich dark earth. You can do this outside in a garden or indoors with a pot and some potting soil. Once you have buried the jar, trace an invoking pentagram (five-pointed star) on the surface of the soil. The pentagram is a symbol of earth and prosperity. By burying your jar in the earth you are infusing it with the power of the earth goddess. The copper of the pennies also represents the earth element. Pentagram, soil, and copper infuse your water with the triple aspect of earth, therefore the water will be thrice blessed.

Keep the jar buried until the next new moon. Wait 24 additional hours and then dig up the jar. Break the wax seal and sprinkle this water around home, business, or person anytime you want to bring more prosperity into your life.
